Using Google Alerts as a research tool
Friday, August 29th, 2008As a way of measuring which of our inbound links are being indexed and when, we all use strategically focussed Google Alerts for many of our clients. These handy little email notifications come straight through to your inbox either once a day, once a week or as soon as a new link is indexed by Googles spiders. This not only lets you know which links are being found but also how quickly they will have an effect.
A nice little side-effect is that you can see what your competitors are doing, for example I personally have an alert setup for seo nottingham to see how our main site is being picked up but it also tells me who is also using this keyphrase and more importantly, how they are doing it. One such tidbit led me to www.jeqq.com, yet another social bookmarking tool. To test out this pretender to Digg or Propellers thrones, Ive submitted a link for Soles4U here:

Ill now sit back and wait to see if and when I get my alert for this one…
